Your Three Heroes
There are three heroes within you; past self, current self, future self.
Your past self is a hero because they got through everything to be your current self. So, respect your past self, rather than defecate all over your past self.
Your current self is a hero for your future self. You're tired and can't be bothered doing the dishes at the end of the day. If you decide not to do the dishes, you have created a burden for your future self. If you choose to do the dishes, the current self is being a hero for the future self.
Your current self can also be a hero to your past self by reframing your history, so it's in a way that works for us now. Recently a client came to me saying they were really struggling, things were really tough at the moment. I asked them to look back over their life and see if there were other times when they’d struggled. I asked them what it was like after the struggle. They realised that the moments of the biggest struggles were the times they’d had the biggest growth. They’d always found a way, even if it was unexpected and unplanned. They had reframed their history; struggles = growth.
Your future self can be a hero for your current self. We can use the future self to role-play options and decisions for ourselves. By projecting versions of ourselves in the future, it allows the current self to gather insights, discern, step up, and become wiser.
Be the hero in your own story.
