Dance into 2016!

One of the things I get a laugh out of each Christmas are the random and bizarre present’s people are given. This year it was my turn for a surprise; a book called “Dance Class”. At first I was a bit perplexed because I’m into nature, bush walking and hanging out at the beach. Dancing is something I do when I’m home alone or more recently because I was intrigued by a Floor Barre (pronounced bar) class a mate was running. I thought it meant going to the Bar and seeing who hits the floor first. I got that one completely wrong; it’s a class designed for injured ballet dancers! As I flicked through this book I started laughing at the pictures and descriptions of the different dances and trying to picture myself doing these dance moves. When I showed it to a couple of mates one said “that’d be fun we should give that a go.” I was surprised at the embarrassment, apprehension and “I can’t do that” that came out of my mouth. As soon as I hear someone say that I automatically ask: “What’s preventing you from …” “What would it be like if you could?” As I answered these two questions I could feel my mind opening up. I realised what was limiting me and what I had to change. I started visualising what I could do as well as the fun, laughter and enjoyment. I was surprised at how easily my thinking and belief had changed. As you set goals for 2016, if you hear yourself say or think to yourself “I can’t” automatically ask: “What’s preventing me from …” “What would it be like if I could?” Then notice the differences to your thinking and actions.

Something to think about...

"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."

- Friedrick Nietzsche

German philosopher, cultural critic, poet and Latin and Greek scholar
